The American with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011, David Fincher) review The American with the Dragon Tattoo I just have to say, wow. Contender for best film I’ve seen all year. ( Although this is only second cinema outing all year….) Ok, I know this is blasphemy considering I’m a Film Studies University student but I haven’t seen or read any of the original Milennium Trilogy films or books. So this review is based on Fincher’s film as being stand alone, without comparison to the original and without getting into the debate of it being a ‘pointless remake’ which, apart from the English language, is too similar to the original. However one thing that annoyed me throughout the film is the nationalities. I found it hard to keep up with what nationality the main characters were supposed to be, due to it being set in Sweden but all of the characters, including a Mikael Blomkvist having a perfect American accent. Barring a very bond-esque title sequence (I wish mor...

30 Day Challenge #1 YOURSELF

So over at Outcast Studios there's a new 30 day drawing challenge on. A new subject each day for a 30 minute drawing.  Today's subject was a sketch of yourself Hated the first one I did so did a second from a couple of old photos Eugh.... but at least this is only day 1

Guess the Sketch- Harry Potter

Surprisingly (sarcasm) no one guessed the sketch right from my last post! Here's how it turned out! And here's the process from my last post...

Guess the Sketch!

So I've decided that my artwork's went waaaay downhill since I moved to digital sketching and inking. I still prefer digital for non messy colouring but for sketching, nothing beats a good ol' pencil. So for my first serious pencil sketch since my Sherlock Holmes sketch back in about 2008 I decided to sketch ......... Why don't you guess? Here's my first initial outlines, which to be honest looks like a troll in drag. Anyone who guesses right before I update the post with my progress can pick what I draw next! That's right people- FREE COMMISSION! Post your guesses here on the blog if you have a googlemail/gmail account or in the link on my facebook Dear, dear I've got my work cut out for me

Avenging Spider-man #3 review

So I've got myself a new gig as the official reviewer of the new Avenging Spider-man comic book series over at Outer Realm Comics http://www.outerrealmcomics.com/ So once a month I'll be posting my reviews up on Outer Realm as well as here! Starting off with issue 3 due to the timing of me joining the site etc Avenging Spider-man Issue 3 Review AVENGING SPIDER-MAN #3 Written by ZEB WELLS Art by JOE MADUREIRA Cover by JOE MADUREIRA, FERRAN DANIEL, HUMBERTO RAMOS, and EDGAR DELGADO Ok so we’ve just finished our first story arc of the new comic and have a good idea of what direction it’s going in. This is a team up book and while all personal issues and dramas of Peter Parker and his supporting cast go on over in Amazing Spider-man , we’re focussing on pure action over here. I was initially scared that this book would then become unimportant and completely irrelevant, simply being another comic with Spidey’s name to boost Marvel’s figures. Turns out I’m enjoying this n...

Sherlock Holmes 2: A Thinking Man's Sequel?

SPOILERS Best movie I’ve seen all year. Ok that’s maybe not too impressive considering it’s mid-January and my exams and coursework have only let me go to the cinema once. But, this is the first movie that I’ve paid to see twice since Avatar, way back in 2009, and I even did so because I enjoyed it, not because I couldn’t follow it… Sherlock and Watson are back and bigger and better with the additions of Jarred Harris as Sherlock’s evil counterpart Professor Moriarty, Stephen Fry as his equally socially inept brother Mycroft Holmes and Noomi Rapace as Gypsy, Simza. Great performances all round, as distracting as I find it seeing Stephen Fry in a serious film. Harris has the creepy factor, RDJ and Jude Law’s charm and relationship are the driving force once more and Noooooomi Rapace does well in the space she’s given, not becoming a typical love interest. Oh I do have once exception. Rachael -I’m more fake than the tans in MClub on a Tuesday night- Adams. In the 5 minutes she was in ...

Marvel Comics 'Audition' - Colouring Jorge Molina's X-Men page

OK so I didn't personally get asked to audition for Marvel- ='( - but I did get a chance to compete in the next best thing! Artist Jorge Molina (http://zurdom.deviantart.com/) working on the X-Men series put up 4 pages of his inks from X-Men issue 16 and offered anyone the chance to 'Work for Marvel'! So the challenge was to colour his pages and he would pick which colourist's art he liked best and from what I can gather they would continue to colour his pages on his current X-Men run! My first time properly colouring a full page and wow is there alot of detail that I took for granted! In this page is the new Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom and Cyclops from the X-Men. This is page 4 of issue 16 by the way! Here's how my flat colours turned out..... Not much to look at I know lol This was pretty damn challenging- but after a while here's the finished version =D BTW the edges aren't neat because the original template had a bleed area =) What d...
