THE 2015 FILM AWARDS
Well here it is folks, the awards that really matter. The most prestigious and exclusive awards of my entire street. These are my favourite films of 2015 and their messy counterparts, the biggest flops. To top things off you can see how I got on with last year’s predictions as well as my predictions for 2016.
TOP FILM OF THE YEAR
WHIPLASH
Stand out performances and intriguing character motives all create the most tense and interesting film of the year. The question asked here is 'how far would you go for greatness?' and luckily Whiplash goes all the way.
Birdman
Inside Out
Ex Machina
Bridge of Spies
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
FANT4STIC
Although expectations weren't high, it's still incredible that something this disjointed and boring was allowed to be shown in cinemas. Watching 2 hours of Cillit Bang commercials with Barry Scott is a much better use of your time.
Runners Up-
Terminator Genisys
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two
Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part Two
Avengers: Age of Ultron- Ultron himself in particular
Lack of Shia LaBoeuf
Last year's predictions
Star Wars to be the best film of the year.
WRONG. A solid film, just not the best film of the year due to feeling like it copied A New Hope. (That's twice you've done this now, Abrams!)
Avengers: Age of Ultron won’t balance the old and new cast
WRONG. I have my problems with the movie, but I think the cast seemed pretty balanced, possibly except for Vision getting a little jipped out of screen time.
Terminator Genisys or Jurrasic World? Both will be average and forgettable at 3/5 each. Jurrasic World to tip it.
WRONG. Genisys was horrendous and Jurrasic World was a moderate critical success and tremendous commercial success.
No one will care about Ant-man or Fantastic Four.
No and Yes. No one cared about FF thanks to poor reviews and invisible marketing, but Ant Man found an audience and exceeded critical and commercial expectations.
Score: 0.5/4
My Predictions for 2016
1. La La Land to be film of the year.
2. Deadpool will be critically panned and just about make back its budget.
3. Batfleck will win over the haters, being the only interesting thing about Batman Vs Superman: Dawn of Justice.
4. Tom Holland’s Spider-man cameo in Captain America: Civil War to be the highlight of the year.
5. Star Trek Beyond will be completely bland and forgettable, forcing the studio to consider a reboot.
6. No one will care about Channing Tatum's Gambit.
7. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will be be praised for its lighter tone and new characters, becoming everyone's guilty pleasure and bringing in close to the $500m mark.
