The Scottscars 2012
I think it’s more fun to have an awards ceremony at the end
of the year, just a bit better, more tidy. So grab your tux and get ready to be
outraged at not the Oscars, but the Scottscars!
Brought to you by the genius minds at scottynewton.blogspot.co.uk
The Nicolas Cage award for Best Actor
Tom Hardy.
Bane was badass, This Means War was something a bit
different and shows the man isn’t a one trick pony. Lawless was fantastic. Hope
he continues to get the big roles. Will probably get extremely ill and be
forced to retire along with Christian Bale soon though due to his constant,
drastic weight changes.
The Kristen Stewart award for Best Actress.
Jennifer Lawrence.
Wow, was she incredible in Silver Linings Playbook. So nice
to see a leading actor from a teen book adaptation actually being able to act!
Take note, Ron Weasely, Emma Watson, Kristen Stewart, R-Patz and Daniel
Radcliffe. She’s effortless in Silver Linings and it’s great to watch an
actress suit a role so much.
The Arnold Schwarzennegger award for best one liner.
Bruce Banner
Even though it made no sense at all, it has to be Bruce
Banner’s reason for magically being able to control his rage all of a sudden.
“I’m always angry”.
Damn that shot was awesome.
The worst haircut of the year.
Shia LaBoeuf for Lawless.
Luckily he wore a hat for most of it though lol
Worst performance of the year
Irrfan Khan.
Is only in the Amazing Spider-man for about 20 seconds and
somehow manages to look like he doesn’t want to be there or even what the hell
he’s doing in it. I just received an angry e-mail from both Nicolas Cage and
Kristen Stewart’s agents complaining that neither of their clients won this
award and honestly it’s because I expected more from Khan. The other two just
didn’t disappoint!
The Stan Lee award for best superhero movie.
The Avengers
An awkward one. Avengers was the most universally appealing
and probably the most fun, The Dark Knight Rises was the most intelligent one
and The Amazing Spider-man was my personal favourite…. Either way, it isn’t
Ghost Rider 2. And the Avengers did make the most money and it could have went
horribly, horribly wrong so it takes it, just for the risk factor.
The Green Lantern award for biggest disappointment.
Snow White and the Huntsman.
Ok so we all joked about Kristen Stewart being a terrible
actress but deep down inside I thought there may be a tiny, glimmer of a chance
that her wooden expression could have been down to a ‘stylistic’ choice of the
bad directors of the Twilight saga. But then Snow White came out and she proved
that she is, in fact, just a terrible actress and has a knack for being in
terrible films.
Turd of the Year.
Ghost Rider 2: Whatever it was called
Special mention to Total Recall, which tried its hardest to
win this category and very nearly succeeded. At least it had half decent CGI.
As for Ghostie cakes though, never have I had to actually be restrained in a
cinema before for laughing so badly at a films shambolic special effects. Story
isn’t there and Nic Cage is awful, even for Nic Cage’s standards.
The Clash of the Titans award for most pathetic attempt at
3D
Wrath of the Titans.
Actually manages to live up to the epic crapness of the previous
‘Clash of the Titans’, especially with the offensive use of 3D which does
absolutely frig all. At least this one actually had a Titan in it. Just one
though.
The Fight Club award for hidden gem of the year.
Looper
Even though Joseph Gordon Levitt didn’t really look anything
like Bruce Willis. Good concept and nice to see time travel getting a proper
treatment.
The SN Blogspot award for our favourite film of the
year.
Lawless
Could almost say it was… flawless.
Oh no he didn’t….
The Batman and Robin award for film of the year.
Silver Linings Playbook
Getting serious for just a second, realistic and emotional,
well paced and a great cast, all delivering great performances. Also has given
me a newfound respect for Bradley Cooper, who I thought was just a sleaze and
Robert De Niro, whos has appeared in some poor crap over recent years.
Excellent all round film to get you thinking. Saying that, I haven’t seen Life
of Pi yet and apparently it’s unbelievable!
The Doctor Emmit Brown award for looking towards the future.
The Hobbit for its use of 48 FPS, even though we weren't fans of it here at HQ
Yes, it did make 3D clearer but when I was watching The
Hobbit in the high frame rate I was constantly thinking, this would look epic
in standard 24 FPS. We’ll probably start to see more filmmakers shoot in it now though, so its something to keep an eye out for over the next few years. Hope it
doesn’t catch on though, not my cup of tea!
The Hawkeye award for most useless Avenger.
Em, Hawkeye who literally just fires bows and arrows and
could probably be replaced by an Olympian archer.
What do you think? Argue away! Drop a comment!
Until next year folks!
